The England Women's team will kick-off their 2011 World Cup qualification campaign against Malta at Bloomfield Road on 25 October. England qualified for the 2007 World Cup in China and reached the quarter-final, only to be beaten by USA, but they have made impressive progress in the last two years. They are currently ninth in the FIFA World Rankings, their highest-ever position. Spain, Austria and Turkey complete Group Five of the European World Cup Qualifiers

ENGLAND WOMEN v ICELAND

Following on from an impressive 3-0 friendly victory against Norway in April, Hope Powell’s England side will take on Iceland at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium, in the first of two friendly internationals in July. With the UEFA European Championship just three month’s away, Powell is keen to test her squad against significant opposition prior to the tournament and in fellow Championship qualifiers Iceland and Denmark, she should get her wish.

ENGLAND WOMEN

2009 Apr 23

After winning the Cyprus Cup in March, manager Hope Powell’s women’s England side will take on Norway in an international friendly at Shrewsbury Town’s ProStar Stadium on Thursday 23 April in preparation for Euro 2009. The Three Lions return to Shrewsbury for the first time since November 2007 when a Karen Carney goal secured victory over Spain in a Euro 2009 Qualifier, and this forthcoming game is sure to provide them with a stern test ahead of the Finals in Finland. Norway are currently ranked sixth in the FIFA world rankings, four places above England.
